He was sexually abused in the mosque when he was young

Question

Assalaamualaikum, I want to share with you an incident which happened in my childhood at the age of 12. It's causing lot of anxiety(psychological) in me. Now i am 24 years old. I keep on ignoring this thing. But finally decided to share with islam web. One morning i was sitting after Fazr namaz and doing Zikr in the mosque. One man with long beard with age around 45 to 50 years came to me and talked in a nice way and took me to the the first floor of the mosque where no one were there. He told me he came from ----(A well known religious school near delhi in india) and invited me to join the madrasa. Then he asked me to open my mouth and kissed my mouth and toungue. I was not able to stop him as i was a child and not expecting that thing from such a religious person. He told me that will improve my knowledge. He then tied some Taawiz in my neck. He also told me that he has some Taawiz which protects me from all the harms and has the power to even make a person invisible if needed. He promised me to give that Taawiz to me if i come the next day. But i never went. My question is, Is it a child abuse?I investigated and came to know that the old man is from the--- religious school and has done the same thing with other children also.I am not able to understand why such a pious person from such an religious school will do such kind of act. I didn't like him kissing my tongue and one more thing he hasn't done any other thing. I am very confused. I will abuse that old man when ever i remind that incident, then i think i am doing wrong. Some times i feel that particular incident has done some harm to me. Then i feel only god has the power to do good or harm to any one. I want to forget the incident but it keep on reminding me.I want to know why this particular incident happened to me.I have suffered a lot from this and lost the trust in religious people. Is it god testing me? please advice.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If what you mentioned in the question is correct that that man kissed you then he was wrong and committed a grave sin, and if you mean that this act is a sexual abuse then this is correct but if you mean that it is a kind of homosexuality, then it is not. On the other hand, we do not know how you ruled that that man is pious and religious; the fact that he had a beard and he was affiliated to an Islamic School does not mean that he was pious and religious. However, this incident should not lead you to suspect every religious person; rather, in principle a Muslim is innocent [until he is proven guilty]. Nonetheless, a Muslim should be conscious and alert, and be careful not to be dragged to an evil.

Furthermore, if what you mentioned is confirmed that that man claimed that he can give you amulets that will make you invisible, then he is a magician; therefore, one should advise him to avoid practicing such an evil.

In any case, you should endeavour to forget this issue and not give way to these thoughts because the devil may take advantage of this matter and preoccupy you from doing important matters, and he may even lead you to unpleasant consequences.

On the contrary, you should think that this is an easy matter, it is over and Allaah protected you from its evil, but if you think whether or not this was a kind of trial, then this may even worsen the matter for you.

Finally, it should be noted that if it is confirmed to you that that man is inflicted by committing Zina (fornication or adultery) or other immoralities, then you should advise him and remind him to fear Allaah. Then if he does not repent, you should warn people against him.

Allaah Knows best.
