Wants to travel alone to marry a man who proposed marriage to her

Question

a guy proposed to me, he is religous and i feel confident about his character and morals. The situation is that he lives in Tunisia and i live in USA. is there any possible way for me to travel to his country for the reason of marriage eventhough i dont have a mahram. My intentions are to live in this country for good with him. Please advise me what do you believe is best to do in this situation.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is not permissible for a woman to travel without a Mahram except in case of necessity as we clarified in Fataawa 86565 and 83795. In fact, your travel to the country of that young man in order to marry him is not a necessity that makes it permissible for you to travel without a Mahram.

Therefore, if he can himself come [to your country] to marry you with the consent of your guardian, or that your guardian travels with you to marry you off to him, or that he [the man whom you want to marry] authorizes someone to contract his marriage with you in your country, or that you and your guardian authorize someone to contract your marriage in his (that young man’s) country, then this is acceptable. Otherwise, you should not be attached to him and Allaah may facilitate for you a husband who is better than him. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 91719.

Allaah Knows best.
