It is obligatory to make up for the day of fasting on which masturbation took place

Question

I masturbated in Ramadan, but I am not sure whether I performed ghusl (ritual bath) in the right manner or not. Please advise!

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, you must know that masturbating is prohibited. In Ramadan, the prohibition of masturbation is even more stressed. That being said, you have to repent of what you have done and make up for the day on which you committed that sin if that occurred during daytime.

As for ghusl, if you just doubt whether or not you performed the right ghusl, then you are not required to perform ghusl again, Allaah willing. However, if you mostly believe that you did not perform the ghusl as due, then you have to repeat the prayers that you have done after this ghusl. If you have not already done so, then you also have to redo the ghusl to remove the major impurity in the right manner before repeating the prayers.

Allaah Knows best.
