It is permissible to blow and rub in Ruqya

Question

My mother is ill so I recite some Quranic verses and Sharee‘ah-approved Ruqyahs over her from a booklet, then I softly blow out moist breath in my right hand and rub her body with it. Is this right?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Dear questioner, what you are doing is correct provided that the booklet you mentioned includes Sharee‘ah-approved supplications and Athkaar (mentionings and remembrances). In a Hadeeth on the authority of ‘Awf ibn Maalik Al-’Ashja‘i may Allaah be pleased with him the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that Ruqyah is permissible provided that it does not include any Shirk (polytheism). [Muslim]

In another Hadeeth on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her she mentioned that when he was ill, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite Al-Mu‘awwithataan (Soorahs Al-Falaq and An-Naas) and softly blow moist breath in his hand and then rub the place where he felt pain. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Therefore, continue to make Ruqyah for your mother and continually ask Allaah The Almighty to cure her. We ask Allaah The Almighty to grant her a full recovery.

And Allaah Knows best.
