Ruling on throwing away egg yolks for health concerns

Question

Due to the health concern, I separate yolk (yellow part) from egg before frying. Is it allowable in Isalm as it is a wastage. Can I request my wife to remove yolk for me? She is hesitant to do that for me as she thought she would be held responsible for the wastage.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is impermissible for Muslims to eat what harms them; Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {…And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allaah is to you ever Merciful.}[Quran 4:29]

Moreover, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” [Ahmad]

Hence, there is no harm in removing the yolk from egg before eating it; however, it is impermissible to throw it away and let it go to waste. Throwing it away constitutes waste. Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {... and do not spend wastefully.}[Quran 17:26] Al-Mugheerah ibn Shu‘bah may Allaah be pleased with him reported that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Allaah has forbidden you from being undutiful to mothers, burying alive your daughters, denying the rights of others, and claiming something without right. And He dislikes three things for you: gossip, asking too many questions (for things which will be of no benefit to one) and wasting of wealth.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Therefore, you can give it to someone else to eat or use it to feed chickens, birds or the like.

Allaah Knows best.
