Fatwa CenterExtending programs’ duration through cracks is impermissible
Question
Is it permissible to use cracks and secret codes to extend the duration of programs that expire after a few days? What is the Sharee‘ah ruling?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
As long as the owners of these programs do not permit using them after the set time, it is impermissible to use cracks or secret codes to extend the duration of such programs. That is because the owner of something has the right to dispose of it in whatever way he wishes.
Principally, the rights of a Muslim, Mu‘aahad (those who have a treaty [or a peace treaty] with the Muslims) and one who is under protection are inviolable and it is impermissible to transgress against them in any way.
