Chat group owner may restrict nature of posts

Question

Salam aleikum sheikh. I have a question. One sister has create a internet sms group only for sisters where u can buy and sell things. Sometimes some sisters including myself make other coments there for example some sisters post there when there is a darz in mosque, when there is a islamic meeting for sisters, some sisters post diffrent things like for example they want to open like a daycarecenter for muslim moms and children . Or that im a hairdresser so u can come to my home and get yr hair cut or colored. I have even make coments when there is a muslim family in need of sadaqa bcz of difficulties. All theese things r halal things that is good for muslims and make us closer and bonding. We r living in non muslim country. I would like to ask u what is yr opinion about the creator of this sistergroup that she forbids sisters to post this halal encouragements to other muslims. She gets angry and say that were only allowed to sell and buy things and not anything more. What would the prophet say about a muslim forbit other muslims to ask other muslims for sadaqa to muslim familys, or darzmeetings and so on. Many sisters are angry that she makes theese rules . Jazaki allahu khairan

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The matter is easy, Allaah willing, and it is not a cause for concern and does not require the effort of issuing a Fatwa about the group owner being sinful, or about her actions preventing good deeds or the like. This is not correct. It is up to the group owner to determine the nature of the posts, so that the group doesn't depart from the topics it was established for.

If any other member of the group wishes to create another group to disseminate something good and invite people to give charity, then she may do so and no one can prevent her.

Yes, if the owner of the current group would permit disseminating good things in her group, it would no doubt be better for her, and it would be a cause for attaining divine reward, but she is not sinful for refraining from doing so.

Allaah Knows best.
