Question
Assalaamu alaykum Shaykhs. In general, open learning websites offer courses on many beneficial subjects. But they also contain courses on forbidden subjects, photos of women/other forbidden images, and adds of forbidden things. Can I go to these websites to do permissible courses only? Or should I avoid these websites completely? I would be grateful if you would give a direct answer to this question instead of showing other examples of fatwas. May Allaah reward you.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
When the unlawful things are mixed with lawful ones in a way that one can still benefit of what is lawful while avoiding what is unlawful, then that does not forbid benefiting from what is lawful. Therefore, there is no objection to benefiting from these websites while avoiding the forbidden things on them.
