Loses Khushoo' in Prayer Due to Whispers

Question

I get these whispers for example in Salah and I lose Kushoo saying “so what if Allah is infront of me while I pray” then other times I understand how big of a deal it is and what it means if Allah is infront of me and I have more Kushoo. What should I do?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Satan circulates in the body of man like the circulation of blood. Allah may afflict a person with Satan as a way of testing them. But Allah legislated for people means to repel the evil plots and whispers of the devil.

Uthmaan ibn Abu Al-'Aas may Allaah be pleased with him reported that he came to the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and said: “O Prophet of Allah; Satan intervenes between me and my prayer and my recitation of the Quran and he confounds me." Thereupon, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “That is (the doing of a) devil who is known as Khinzab, and when you perceive its effect, seek refuge with Allah from it and spit three times to your left.” Uthmaan said: “I did that and Allah dispelled that from me.” [Muslim] Therefore, you should be very keen on adhering to this etiquette.

If a Muslim remembers that he is near Allah while he is in prayer and that Allah is near to him, then this helps him in obtaining Khushoo’ (submissiveness and attentiveness) in his prayer. Anas may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whenever one of you stands for the prayer, he is speaking in private to his Lord” or “his Lord is between him and his Qiblah….” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Allah knows best.
