Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Passing wind is among the invalidators of ablution. If a person passes wind during the prayer, his prayer is invalidated due to the invalidity of his ritual purity which is one of the conditions for the validity of the prayer. This is the ruling in normal circumstances. However, if a person passes wind continuously (suffering from wind incontinence) to the extent that he does not know whether or not it would cease for a period of time which would be enough to perform ritual purification and pray on time, then the same ruling on urine incontinence applies to this case. Accordingly, the person who has this problem should perform ablution after the time of each prayer starts and then perform the obligatory prayer and any other voluntary prayers he wishes. If he passes wind, even while praying, it is of no effect, unless he passes it deliberately.

Therefore, we say to you: if you have enough time to perform ablution and pray without passing wind, as you mentioned in the question: “sometimes I am able to pray all the five prayers without passing wind,” then it is incumbent on you to delay the prayer to this time (when you do not pass wind continuously), even if it leads to missing the congregational prayer. This is because fulfilling the conditions for the validity of prayer takes precedence over the virtue of praying in congregation. This is, of course, as long as you do not fear that the time of the prayer would expire before performing it. If you fear that the time of the prayer would expire, you should perform ablution and pray in that condition.

Allah Knows best.
