Question

What should I do to enter Paradise?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is praiseworthy to strive to do all that may yield the satisfaction of Allaah The Almighty and consequently gain admittance into Paradise.

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , was reported to have ordered the Muslims to be keen on obeying Allaah The Almighty, to seek His favors and blessings, and not to be too lazy to perform acts of worship or to ask Allaah The Almighty for help. [Muslim]

Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging.} [Quran 18:107] Therefore, in order to gain the pleasure of Allaah The Almighty and to be admitted into Paradise, one has to apply the contents of this verse. He must observe the duties of our religion as pointed out in the Hadeeth by the angel Jibreel (Gabriel) may Allaah exalt his mention. ‘Umar may Allaah be pleased with him narrated on the authority of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, that Islam is to testify that there in none worthy of worship except Allaah The Almighty and that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger, to perform prayers, to pay Zakah [obligatory charity], to fast the month of Ramadan, and to perform pilgrimage if physically and financially able. Moreover the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, explained that Eemaan (faith) is to believe in Allaah The Almighty, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and in predestination - either good or bad. He also explained that Ihsaan is to worship Allaah The Almighty as if you see Him, for He sees you although you cannot see Him. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, added that this was the religion taught to him by Jibreel may Allaah exalt his mention. [Muslim]

Therefore, you have to observe the outward pillars of Islam, the most important of which is prayer. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was reported to have said that prayer is the best obligation and that no one except a believer observes it. [At-Tabaraani: Al-Kabeer. Al-’Aajurri]

Perform prayers in congregation. Ibn Mas’ood may Allaah be pleased with him said that anyone who wanted to meet Allaah The Almighty as a Muslim should observe the five daily prayers in the mosque.

You also have to purify your creed from Bid’ah (religious innovations), associating partners with Allaah The Almighty, and superstition; do what is lawful and believe in its lawfulness; abstain from what is unlawful and believe in its prohibition; be where Allaah The Almighty would like you to be; and stay far away from where Allaah The Almighty would dislike you to be.

Abu Th‘alabah Al-Khushani may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that Allaah The Almighty set limits, so you must not exceed them; enjoined obligations, so you must not neglect them; forbade things, so you must not commit them; and He did not mention things, not forgetfully but out of mercy for you, so you must not ask about them. [Ibn Jareer, Ibn Al-Munthir, Al-Haakim: Saheeh (Authentic)]

Dear brother, seek useful knowledge to have insight in all your affairs, Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Say, "This is my way; I invite to Allaah with insight, I and those who follow me.} [Quran 12:108]

Keep the company of the people of knowledge who are upright and steadfast. We supplicate to Allaah The Almighty to guide us to do what pleases Him and to count us among the dwellers of Paradise. Only Allaah The Almighty can guarantee success.

Allaah Knows best.
