Question

What is the ruling on the one who curses time?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is forbidden under Sharee‘ah to curse time and this is mentioned in many Hadeeths. Abu-Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Allaah The Almighty Said, 'The son of Aadam hurts Me; for he abuses time though I Am time and I Cause the revolution of day and night.’” [Al-Bukhari] Another narration reads: “Do not hurl abuse on time since Allaah Is time.” [Muslim]

If the one who curses time thinks that it is a doer beside Allaah, he is considered to be a polytheist. If he thinks that it is only Allaah Who Did that and he curses the one who did that then such a person blasphemes Allaah. If he curses time because it is a condition, in such a case he curses a creature which does not deserve to be cursed.

Allaah Knows best.
