Question

I am seeking an appropriate/ideal answer for my kids question, ‘who created Allah?’

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

This kind of questions might sometimes be asked to the children, but their guardian should turn them away from them as they are from the devil. Anas may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "The people will not stop wondering and asking till they would say: This is Allah, the Creator of everything, but who created Allah?” [Al-Bukhari]

In another narration, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The devil would come to one of you and whisper to him: “Who created such and such?”, “Who created such and such?”, until he whispers to him: “Who created your Lord?” If things reach this level, he should seek refuge in Allah from the devil, and stop asking [thinking about] such questions.” [Muslim]

Therefore, dear brother, you should tell your children indirectly that such questions are not lawful. You should try to make them turn away from asking such questions, by telling them to seek refuge in Allah and not ask such questions again. You should try to direct their attention to Allah’s Blessings and His Dominion (supreme power) over the universe (the heavens and the earth).

Finally, we ask Allah to protect you and your children from the Devil.
