Question

Q.1.Can we wear swimming shorts during the swimming, as it does not cover the whole Awra? Q.2. Shrimps are Halal or Haraam?.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is obligatory on every Muslim to cover his 'Awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in Islam). It is desirable and a sign of a good moral conduct for him to cover it if he is alone or in darkness, as Bahaz Ibn Hakeem may Allaah be pleased with him asked the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) narrated from his father from his grandfather who said: "I asked the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) from whom should we conceal our private parts and to whom can we show them? He replied: "Conceal your private parts except from your wife or from what your right hand possess [female slave]. I then asked: What should we do if the people are assembled together? He sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) replied: "If it is possible that no one looks at it, then you should not show it to anyone." I asked again: "What about when one of us is alone? He sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) replied: "Allaah has more right to be bashful off." [Ahmed, At-Tirmithi, Ibn Maajah].

Therefore, a Muslim should fear Allaah and should not adopt western culture whereby a person may be nude or show part of his 'Awrah in some specific places, or only be dressed in underwear which does not cover their 'Awrah. Whoever likes to swim, he should wear the dress that covers his 'Awrah.

2- Allaah permitted us to eat shrimps and His Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) allowed us to eat them, as he sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Two types of dead animals and two types of blood are permitted for us. The types of dead animals are seafood and locusts. The two types of blood are the liver and the spleen."

Allaah Knows best.
