Saying "Ya Rasul Allah"

Question

Assalaam Alaikum, Can you say "Ya Rasul Allah"? Please explain. Please give references for each of these from the Qur'an, Hadith and logic.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

It is forbidden to say "Ya Rasul Allah" "O Allah's Messenger" as a supplication or a call for help these are sorts of (Ibada) worship which must not be addressed to anyone save Allah the Almighty.

Allah Says (Interpretation of meaning): {Say O Muhammad! Invoke Allah or invoke the Most Beneficent (Allah) by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same) for to Him belong the Best Names}.[17:110]

Allah also says: {And your Lord said: " Invoke Me (and ask Me for anything), I will respond to your invocation. Verily those who scorn My worship (i.e., Do not invoke Me and do not believe in my Oneness), they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!) .[40:59]

Allah also says repudiating those who call any but Allah: {Verily those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful}. [7:194]

Allah also says: {Those whom they call upon [like Iesa, Mary, the Angels..] desire [for themselves] means of access to their Lord (Allah), as to which of them should be the nearest and they hope for His Mercy and fear His torment. Verily, the torment of your Lord is something to be afraid of}.[17:57]
Allah knows best.
