Marrying a Non-Virgin

Question

Is it Halal to marry a woman who is not virgin?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Marrying a non-virgin woman is permissible. There is no evidence to prohibit doing so. Allah Says (what means): {Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allah], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins.} [Quran 66:5]

All the wives of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) were non-virgins at the time of their marriage to him except ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her.

However, the Prophet may Allaah be pleased with her urged people to marry virgins, but it is not a general rule. Sometimes marrying a non-virgin is more beneficial than marrying a virgin.

Allah knows best.
