Question

I live in California, here there is a group called Ahl ahbaash or Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah. My question is, who are they, and what is their Aqeedha and their belief? Is it Halal to send my children to their Islamic school?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Al-Ahbaash is a group named after an Ethiopian man, his name is 'Abdullaah, born in Harer (a city in Ethiopia) in 1950 A.C. He gathered around himself a group of people and educated them according to his thought and mentality. This group developed to become a special entity in Lebanon. They spread their doctrine into USA, Canada, Australia and other places. He, the founder, moved from Syria to reside in Lebanon where he could spread his ideas freely.
This group believes in fatalism, does not believe in the Names and Attributes of Allaah as they are stated in the Quran and Sunnah and works on spreading the ideas of Sufism and Baataniah (Those who believe that the Quran has inner (hidden) meanings that only few people know). Al-Ahbaash also believe that most of Muslim scholars are disbelievers and curse the Prophet's sallallaahu Alayhi wa sallam) companions.
This group believes only in Tawheed al-Ruboobiyyah (Divine Lordship of Allaah); i.e. that He is the Sole Creator, Maintainer and Nourisher. This, in fact, was the belief of Arab polytheists; Allaah Says (what means):

  • {And if you ask them who created them, they will surely say: "Allaah". How then are they turned away (from the worship of Allaah, Who created them)?} [Quran 43: 87].
  • {And indeed if you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" They will surely say: "The All-Mighty, the All-Knower created them".} [Quran 43: 9].

The above belief will not avail them unless they believe in Tawheed Al-Uloohiyyah (Divinity of Allaah and that He is The only One worthy of worship).
Al-Ahbaash believe in supplicating the dead for help, vowing for them, believe in the blessing of stones and in similar practices of polytheism.
They demonstrate their innovations that contradict the Sunnah the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu Alayhi wa sallam. They also speak evil of 'Aa`ishah may Allaah be please with her and believe that Mu'aawiyah may Allaah be please with him, is dissolute.
Al-Ahbaash believe that all the companions (and others) who fought against 'Ali may Allaah be please with him were propagandists to the Hell-Fire.
They believe that Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn Al-Qayyim, Ibn Baaz, Al-Albaani, Ibn 'Uthaymeen, Sayyid Saabiq and Sayid Qutub may Allaah have mercy upon them are not Muslims. So, Muslims are required to beware of this deviated group.
Based on the above, we state that Al-Ahbaash is not from Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa'ah and it is prohibited to send your son to their schools.
Allaah knows best.
