Schools that do not teach religion

Question

I have a question about Muslim schools in a community. In the community where I live there is a mosque/school. But the teachers aren't very educated on what Islam is about. I went last year in the summer to get help in reading the Holy Qur'an. They didn't know how to teach me. So should I still go to that school even though they don't know how to teach religion?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If you find better alternatives, then you should move to them, otherwise you should remain with these people and do your best to help them in teaching you, by being keen on learning, reciting the Quran, and listening to the best reciters of the Quran who respect the rules of the recitation of the Quran such as Shaykh Mahmood Al-Hussary may Allaah have mercy upon him.

We ask Allaah to help you memorize the Quran and enable you to act upon it.

Allaah Knows best.
