Divorcee in England wants to visit her family but has no Mahram

Question

I am divorced, living in England with my two children, a boy 8 and a girl 6. Every year I look forward to spending my yearly holidays with my mother, brothers and sisters. Now I see that a woman cannot travel without a Mahram. I cannot go there and they need a visa to see me which isn’t always possible. So what can I do? I can’t stop seeing my family.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

The fact of residing in a Kaffir country with your two young children without a guardian like a husband or a father, involves a lot of serious and apparent matters.

In addition, it is not permissible to reside in a Kafir country except for a necessity. Working in your country is difficult but not impossible. Allah, the Most-High, has decreed that if somebody leaves something for His sake, then He will recompense him/her with something better.

Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {…And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine…..}[65:2-3].

Therefore, we advise you to go back to your country and seek employment there to provide for your kids, and Allah may bless you with a husband who will take away that burden from you.

Allah knows best.
