Question

My sister is getting married. A party is being planned for her with music and I do not listen to music. What can I do?

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

We advise you to sit with those in charge of this ceremony and explain to them that this is unlawful. You should remind them of Allah and the Day of Judgement. Let them know what the scholars say about music and musical instruments. Let them know that Islam has alternatives which are using tambourines and chants. If they accept your advice, then that’s good. Otherwise, you should not attend it unless you want to protest against this act and pull out.

We ask Allah to ease your matter and ours.
