Calculating her menstrual period

Question

I want to ask you about my monthly period. For some times I don't find anything except yellow liquid for just 2 days and after that I find white liquid. Do I consider this to be my period or do I have to calculate a period of 10 days?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

What a woman sees as a yellow liquid, or a brown liquid during the days of menstruation is considered a period.

Imam Malik reported that Murjana, Aisha’s (Radiya Allahu Anhuma) friend said: “Women used to send a piece of cotton (that women put on their private parts) on which there is a yellow liquid, to Aisha (Radiya Allahu Anhuma) who used to tell them "do not be in haste until you see the pure white cotton.”

The white liquid is a liquid (as white) as sperm.

Therefore, what you see as a yellow liquid at the end of menstruation is still considered menstruation. But what you see as a white liquid which comes after the yellow liquid is a sign that the woman is pure. So if you see this, then the ruling pertaining to women who are pure applies to you as well. You have to pray, fast and it is permissible for your husband to have sexual intercourse with you.

Allah knows best.
