Repented from allowing a male friend masturbate him

Question

Nearly 1 year ago I had one of my friends masturbate my own parts with his hands. That same night I did Tauba and promised not to do again in my life as long as I am not married. My question is am I still liable for any Shariah punishment? Is it equivalent to having Zina? Please answer with references from Hadith and Qur'an? Thanks.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

No doubt what you and your friend did is a sin. So, both of you must make sincere repentance to Allah. There are many violations such as uncovering Awrah, transgression of Allah's limits, and seeking pleasure through illegal means, all of which are committed during that sin.

As long as you have repented, Allah will forgive you and accept your repentance. Allah says: " Say O 'Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Az-Zumar 39:53)

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Whoever repents before the sun rises from the west, Allah will accept his repentance." (Muslim)

If you have repented from this sin, Allah will not punish you since He is off-Forgiving and most Merciful.

The act is not equal to Zina though it is a form of Zina as the prophet declared: "A hand also commits Zina and its Zina is in its being used in illegal sexual acts. (Ahmed)

Finally, we advise that you hasten to marry so that you can protect yourself from forbidden acts. Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood said, "We were with the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) while we were young and had no wealth whatsoever. So Allah's Messenger said, "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power." (Bukhari)

Allah knows best.
