Brother involved with a non-Muslim girl

Question

I have a brother who is involved with this non-Muslim girl knowing it is Haram. His parents are against the idea of him marrying a non-Muslim girl, but he is not budging from his decision. Is there anything that we can do to make him change his mind?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

You are obliged to exhort your brother and warn him against this practice. Tell him that it is a major sin to have a love relationship with an alien woman.

If this non-Muslim girl is not a Christian or a Jew then getting married to her is forbidden. If she is Christian or Jew then marrying her is allowed provided she is chaste. But in your brother's case, it is not allowed for him to marry this woman since his parents are objecting to the marriage, and obedience to ones parents is compulsory. If the parents express their objection to the marriage of their son to a certain Muslim woman the son should obey them, let alone their objection to his marrying a non-Muslim girl.

Now, we advise you to use all lawful means such as reminding him of the rights of the parents, showing him some Fatawa if possible, advising him with wisdom and good manners to give up this girl. Above all make Dua especially for him; the Dua of parents for their children is responded to.

Allah knows best.
