Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

You have to know that people's homes should not be violated as Allaah made them a place for them to protect and conceal themselves and whatever they do not want other people to see. So it is forbidden for people to see what is in their homes without their permission, that's why Allaah has legislated for us to seek permission before entering someone's house. Allaah says (which means): {O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you ascertain welcome and greet their inhabitants.}[42:27]. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Seeking permission has been legislated so that a person may only see what is permissible."

So you are indeed wrong in two respects:

Firstly, entering to their home without permission.

Secondly, seeing their secrets and whatever they do not want other people to see in their presence, let alone in their absence.

So if entering Muslims' homes and seeing their belongings, in general is forbidden, then entering a neighbour's house is more serious and more forbidden because in principle a neighbour is confident about you regarding his secrets. It is confirmed that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "I swear by Allaah that he is not a (true) believer, I swear by Allaah that he is not a (true) believer, I swear by Allaah that he is not a (true) believer." The companions may Allaah be pleased with them asked: "Who is it, O Prophet of Allaah? He said: "The one whose neighbour is not safe from his evils and mischief."

Allaah knows best.
