Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The people whom Allaah has given the permission to break the fast are: a sick person, a traveller, a pregnant woman or a breastfeeding one who fears harm for her baby, an old man or an old woman who are no longer able to fast. Allaah says (which means): {...but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day)…}[2:184]. Studies in any country of the world are not a reason for breaking the fast, however, if a person is very thirsty or very hungry to an extent that he fears death, he can break the fast on this day and make it up after Ramadan because it is an obligation to preserve one's life. Allaah says (which means): {And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allaah is Most Merciful to you.}[4:29]. Allaah also says (which means): {Allaah burdens not a person beyond his scope.}[2:286]. In another verse, Allaah further says (which means): {…and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship.}[22:78].

Allaah knows best.
