Question

I have falling hair I am very worried making my life unbearable so I have had new hair put in to cover bold patches and I also pray is my praying ok?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is not permissible for a man to join his hair with another kind of hair whether that hair is a human hair or a hair of a pure animal the meat of which we are allowed to eat, and the hair is taken from the animal while it was still alive or after it was slaughtered according to Islamic rites. The same thing applies to pure artificial hair. A group of scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them permitted it for women, but a married woman should seek the permission of her husband. Imaam An-Nawawi may Allaah have mercy upon him said: 'According to the most correct school, the non-human's pure hair is forbidden for a woman if her husband or her master does not allow hair to put it. However, if they give her permission to put this hair, then there is no harm on her to join her original hair with this artificial hair, but this hair is absolutely forbidden for a man.'

As regards praying with such hair, if it is pure, it is like praying while wearing clothes that are forbidden to wear, so the prayer with it is valid but one is sinful. But if this hair is impure, it is not permissible to pray with it, and the prayer with such hair is not accepted, as purity is a condition for the validity of the prayer.

If what you meant is using hair transplantation and not joining artificial hair with natural hair, then this is permissible if it is pure. This is not considered as joining original hair with artificial hair and it is not considered as changing Allaah's Creation, rather this is a kind of the permissible ways of treatment and there is no harm in praying with this hair or wiping over it when performing ablution.

Allaah knows best.
