Abandoning food that increases the problem of passing wind during prayer

Question

As salamu alaikum, Around one and a half years ago, I started to pass gas frequently during the solat. Now I see that out of the 10 major foods we eat in my culture,5 cause serious gas for me.And if I eat them, then I will have to pass gas several times and praying might become rather difficult for me.On the other hand,if I avoid these five foods and stick to the other five foods then I still pass more gas than is normal but not as much as when I eat those ones that cause the most gas.To be more specifc ,when I stick to only these five foods then on the average,I'll be able to pray one solat without passing gas,one solat with at least 4 ablutions, and the remaining 3 solat with say 3 ablutions. But it is not too easy to abstain from these foods. Now i see that there is something wrong with my digestion since i didn't use to pass abnormal gas before.pls should I be patient on the 5 that produce less gas or can i eat what I want since this a case of an health problem? Jaza kum Allahu khairan

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

If it does not cause your hardship to abandon the food that increases your problem of passing wind, then you should avoid eating it in order to perform the prayer while in a state of purity. However, if it is difficult for you to stop eating this type of food and you are harmed, then there is no harm for you to eat what you need and what you like.

Nonetheless, you should perform ablution for every prayer as clarified in Fataawa 83492 and 86400.

Finally, we advise you not to submit to the whispers of Satan as this is one of the means the devil uses to spoil the faith of a Muslim and make him lose the sweetness of worshipping his Lord.

Allaah Knows best.
