The Quranic verse 6:162

Question

what is the asbab al nuzul of verse 162 of surah al-anam

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

After investigating the books of Tafseer, we were not able to find the reason of the revelation of the following verse, Allaah Says (what means): {Say (O Muhammad): "Verily, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allaah, the Lord of the 'Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists).} [Quran 6:162]. However, it should be noted here that this verse clarified that the most important characteristics of a Muslim is to sincerely worship Allaah Alone, and that the religion of Islam covers all the aspects of life of a Muslim. Allaah Says (what means): {And We have sent down to you the Book (the Quran) as an exposition of everything.} [Quran 16:89].

Furthermore, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) acted according to what he was ordained to do, as he used to say in his opening supplication of the prayer: ''Verily, I have turned my face towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism, i.e. worshipping none but Allaah Alone) and I am not of the polytheists. Verily, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allaah, the Lord of the 'Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists).''

Allaah Knows best.
