Changed her last name to cut off ties with her family
In America a woman is custom to taking her husband's last name but islamically is she allowed to do so?
Also I have changed my name once already to be left alone from my crazy family so technically I am not even giving up a family name but rather just a name I adopted.

A brother named his son "Salman Rahman" when he was not that religious. Now he feels that it was inappropriate to name his son like that. The son is now 14 years old. My question is that, is there a sin in naming children like that? And does he NEED to change the name now?.. More

Wife taking her husband’s name
Dear Faculty,I have read in few islamic sites that a wife cannot change her Family name with her Husband's name which is HARAAM in Islam.For example, as my name is Atif so can my Wife change her name as SAMRA ATIF instead of her previous name SAMRA MAZHAR SINDHU. Please clarify it?

She was given the last name of her husband on her ID Card
As-salamu'aleikum, On my ID card I was given my husband's last name without being asked for permission. I understand that this is forbidden in Islam. However, I always use my father's last name myself except on official papers. Am I to blame for what has happened? Will Paradise be forbidden for me? .. More

Dear Shaikh Asalam-u-Alaikum One of my brother in Islam has name Mohammad but he only pronounce Mo and people call him only by Mo Many of the people Muslims, Non Muslims working with him doesn't know that his real name is Mohammad Every one call him with Mo Only What does sharia say about this? The name “Muhammad Asghar”
Aslamu Alikum , Few days ago I was watching TV. A Hanfi Scholar said that it's not permissible to have name "Muhammad Asghar " because Asghar means "Small " so when we attach this name with Muhammad then there are chances of disrespect .
