Afraid to remove a mole on his cheek

Question

Asalam O Alaikum! I am 21 year old guy from Pakistan. The problem I am stating here is somewhat superstitious. Well, things were going fine in our family 3 years ago. My mother, my little brother and I had a mole on cheek. After finding the proper treatment my mother and my brother decided to rub out that mole. After using the cream for few days the moles went off. But after this, a very serious accident happened to our family in shape of my father’s untimely death. Relative and other people attributed such accident to mole and said that the very moles were sign of fortune for our family and removing it caused such misery. Since i hadn't get my mole removed by that time, therefore, my family-members prohibited me to remove it. Now, i want to remove it through a cream which will be unavalaible in market after 1 week. No I am feared that removing the mole may bring another such accident. Sir, kindly eliminate my fear by stating your scholarly knowledge. Tell me what to do and if there is any reality behind such things? Also, how can we avoid ourselves to not get trapped by such worries? Jazakallah Khaira……. Regards, Rahman Khan

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is not permissible to be pessimistic due to removing the mole as this is a kind of Shirk [associating partners to Allaah]. What Allaah did not legislate to be a means (of achieving a given objective), it is not permissible to take it as a means; for more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 91008 and 91474.

Indeed, the death of your father has nothing to do with the issue of removing the mole; each person will die according to his appointed time. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 83292.

Therefore, if you are in need of removing the mole, then you may do so with courage while relying on Allaah and having full trust in Him, acting on the Saying of Allaah (which means): {Say, “Never will we be struck except by what Allaah has decreed for us; He is our protector.” And upon Allaah let the believers rely.}[Quran 9:51]

Moreover, you should know that the whispers which you might have are from the devil, so you should not take them into consideration and you should seek refuge in Allaah from them.

The best thing by which a Muslim may protect himself from falling prey to such superstitions is by seeking religious knowledge taken from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ).

Allaah Knows best.
