Fatwa CenterHer husband asks her to wear only black or white Hijab
Question
salam aleikum.. i have one question to ask. My husband will travel away from me for about 6 months and in this time he say that i cant have any other color on my hijab but black and white. His reason for this is because he say that im very beautiful and when i have other color than theese colors he say that many men look at me. My question is. Does he have right to make like this? I think its kind of silly because all women like to have diffrent colors in their hijab, but my husband say i can only have other colors when he is outside with me.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
Your husband has the right to ask you to wear a Hijab that is free from attractive colours when you go out to a place where non-Mahram men can see you. The scholars 
stated that among the conditions of Hijab which a Muslim woman wears when she goes out is that it should not be a beauty in itself as we clarified in Fatwa 83702.
Having many colours on the Hijab renders it not fulfilling its purpose which is to prevent men looking at the woman. The Hijab that is full of colours is beautified with those colours and the woman becomes a means for men to look at. Allaah Says (what means): {…and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof.} [Quran 24:31]
It is not permissible to wear this kind of Hijab neither when the husband is absent nor when he is present.
