Fatwa CenterState of ablution if threadworms come out of the anus
Question
Assalamualaikum, Kindly help me to resolve this problem. If worm (thread-worm) exits from the alimentary canal (anus) from a person when in state of wudhu, does his wudhu becomes null and void? appreciate a comprehensive explanation as Im very concern about this problem. Jazhakhalla !
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
The jurists 
differed in opinion in regard to worms which come out of one’s anus. The majority of the scholars of the Shaafi’i, Hanbali and Hanafi Schools of jurisprudence are of the view that ablution becomes void if worms come out of one’s anus. However, the Maaliki School of jurisprudence, are of the view that it does not invalidate ablution. Ibn Qudaamah 
when speaking about the things that invalidate ablution, said: “The second type: it is a very rare type, like blood, worms, stones, and hair, and it also invalidates ablution and this is the view of Ath-Thawri, Is’haaq, and the scholars of the Hanafi School of jurisprudence . In addition to this, ‘Attaa’, Al-Hassan, Abu Mijlaz, Al-Hakam, Hammaad, Al-Awzaa’i and Ibn Al-Mubaarak are of the view that ablution is obligatory if worms come out of the anus. However, Imaam Maalik did not make it obligatory to have ablution due to this kind (worms), because it is rare and it resembles what comes out of other parts of the body other than the private parts. The evidence that the view of the majority of the scholars is the preponderant one is that it comes out from the anus and it resembles the Madhi (pre-seminal fluid) and it is rarely free from an impurity that is attached to it, so ablution becomes void due to the worms as the Prophet ordered the woman who is in a state of bleeding outside her monthly periods to perform ablution for every prayer although her bleeding is not regular.”
Moreover, An-Nawawi said in “Al-Majmoo’”: "The scholars differed in opinion about worms coming out of the anus, and ‘Attaa’ ibn Abi Rabaah, Al-Hassan Al-Basri, Hamad ibn Abi Sulaymaan, Abu Mijlaz, Al-Hakam, Sufyaan Ath-Thawri, Al-Awzaa’i, Ibn Al-Mubaarak, Ash-Shaafi’i, Ahmad, Is’haaq, and Abu Thawr are of the view that it is an obligation to perform ablution due to it, while Qataadah and Maalik are of the view that no ablution is needed due to it, and this is reported from An-Nakha’i .”
To conclude, the view that ablution is invalidated due to worms coming out of one’s anus is stronger [more preponderant] because as Ibn Al-Qayyim said, it is rarely free from impurity with it.
