Spending on cousins who make or wear amulets

Question

salaam
is it halal to give spend money on cousins who commit shirk (amulerts) u dont know what it contains?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for you to spend on your cousins especially if they are in need of this donation as they are your relatives, and spending on a relative is an act of charity and keeping ties with kinship as confirmed in a Hadeeth reported by Ahmad and others.

Nonetheless, it is permissible to spend on them only if you do not know that they will use your money to do evil things, otherwise it is not permissible to spend on them.

However, you should exploit that occasion to try to influence them by advising them in a wise and good manner while abiding by religious conditions when speaking with them as Allaah may guide them thanks to you. Indeed, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “If Allaah guides one single man (to Islam) by your efforts, that will be better for you than possessing the red camels (i.e. the most precious breed of camels).” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

For more benefit on the ruling of wearing amulets, please refer to Fataawa 91549 and 85125.

Finally, it should be noted that if what you spend on them is from the obligatory Zakah, then it is not permissible to give it to them unless they have any of the characteristics of those who are eligible for Zakah, i.e. the eight kinds of people who are mentioned in the Saying of Allaah (which means): {As-Sadaqaat (Zakat) are only for the poor, and for the needy, and for those employed to collect (the funds); and for attracting the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards Islam); and to free the captives; and for those in debt; and for Allaah's Cause (i.e. for those fighting in the holy wars), and for the wayfarer (a traveler who is cut off from everything); a duty imposed by Allaah. And Allaah is All-Knower, All-Wise.}[Quran 9:60]

Allaah Knows best.
