Question

What is the view of Islam regarding the interpretation of dreams? Is it possible that dreams might come true? What is the difference between a dream and a vision?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

If someone is qualified, he is permitted under Sharee‘ah to interpret dreams. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, interpreted dreams and others interpreted them in his presence. It is possible for dreams to come true, otherwise, their interpretation by the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and his asking about them would have been meaningless.

Visions and dreams are both created by Allaah The Almighty and they happen according to His Will.

Allaah Knows best.
