Fatwa CenterRequirements of one who remembered that his clothes are impure in prayer
Question
I performed the ‘Asr prayer but, while I was in the third Rak‘ah, I remembered that my clothes were impure. What is the ruling regarding my prayer?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Whenever a worshipper remembers that his clothes or body are impure, he should interrupt his prayer immediately and hasten to remove that impurity, whether he was an Imaam (i.e. the one leading the congregational prayer) or a Ma’moom (i.e. the one being lead). It is impermissible for him to continue his prayer in a state of impurity while being aware of it. The prayer of whoever does so is invalid and he is considered sinful.
