Whispers About Passing Wind

Question

I believe I have muscle twitches in my buttock region called "Fasciculation", it feels like someone flicking your skin or like a pop. It produces a noise, too, like a "tick" sound. So sometimes I will feel it in my left or right buttock or sometimes near the anus, and this is my problem. I will be sitting between Sujood and when I feel this twitch around my anus with a noise I get misgivings that I broke wind. I am suffering from waswasah for years but because I hear a noise it grieves me a lot and I make wudu, even though I am reasonably sure it's a twitch and there is no smell with it. Is it acceptable for me to ignore this sound in this case? As long as I do not believe with certainty that I have passed wind?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

You have to ignore this feeling and not pay any attention to it.

You should know that ablution is not invalidated except with a firm certainty – a certainty upon which you can swear – that you have discharged something.

Since you are not certain that you have passed wind, then do not pay any attention to it and just ignore it.

You should ignore all these whispers, because giving in to them will lead you to a great evil.
