Fatwa CenterWorking in a Company which Markets Machinery with Dual Use in Halal and Haram Activities
Question
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuI hope you all are in the best forms and health InshaAllah. I have a question regarding a job opportunity, I want to know if this position is halal or haram in islam? So, the position is Finance and Customer Service Co-ordinator in the company. The company manufacturers and sells and do maintenance of the food processing and packaging machines, like the big machines used in the plants to make and pack food items in the factories?Now, the customers who will buy the machines(the factories or plants) are most likely to make and pack non-halal items and sell them in the market. So, is this falls are co-operating in sins and transgression. Is my work in the company which makes the machine is halal or even it is permissible to work in this company. All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible for you, in principle, to work in this company that manufactures and sells machines used for both halal and haram purposes. However, if a client's work is exclusively focused on selling prohibited items such as factories producing alcohol and cigarettes, for example, or if you learn that they intend to use these machines for a forbidden activity, it is not permissible for you to market the machines that they use in such activities. This is because it involves assisting in sin.
