Creating a Platform Application

Question

I have a question about the permissibility of a business idea. I want to make a platform app, like Uber, but instead of connecting drivers and customers I want to connect online shops with people making ads on social media (TikTok, instagram, Twitter) and I take a fee. Is it permissible even if some of the people making ads put music and women? And some people sell haram products? Please note I can’t regulate it. Thank you. Jazak Allahu Khayra.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It seems that this matter is not permissible as long as you know that the platform will be used by those who publish advertisements containing music or pictures of adorned women as well as knowing that some people may sell prohibited products, and you also know that you cannot control their actions. Thus, by creating this platform for these people you will be considered to be helping them in sin.

Allah the Almighty says (what means): {Cooperate with one another in goodness and righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression.} [Qur'an 5:2]

Whoever helps spread a sin will bear the burden of his sin and the burden of everyone who did it after him, as Allah's Messenger, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: “He who introduced some good practice in Islam which was practised after him (by people), he will be rewarded similar to those who followed it without their rewards being diminished in any way. And he who introduced some evil practice in Islam which had later been practised (by people), he will bear the burden like that of one who followed it without their burden being diminished in any respect.” [Saheeh Muslim]

Allah knows best.
