Useful tips to convince girls to wear the Hijab

Question

How can I convince my daughters to wear the Hijab? They perform the prayer, but whenever I talk to them about wearing the Hijab, they tell me that they will wear it later on! I am fed up with repeatedly bringing up this issue. I have informed them that the punishment of Allaah Almighty for such a sin is severe, and I wish that they will be blessed with guidance.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Do not lose hope or leave your daughter exposing their beauty and adornment and challenging the commands of Allaah, the Exalted, and His Messenger, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. You should also seek help from their father and brothers. If they see your determination and striving to convince them to observe the Hijab, they will respond to you by wearing the Hijab, Allaah willing.

You should keep on supplicating Allaah, the Exalted, to grant them guidance and correct their affairs, especially at times when supplications are most likely to be answered. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Three supplications are answered, there is no doubt about them (being answered); the supplication of an oppressed person, the supplication of a traveler, and the supplication of a parent for his child." [Ibn Maajah and Abu Daawood]

Moreover, you should encourage them more often and inform them that when one complies with the command of Allaah, the Exalted, He will render things easy for him and grant him happiness in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. You should also evoke their fear from the wrath and punishment of Allaah Almighty.

You should clarify to them that a Muslim woman's honor consists in modesty, adherence to the Hijab, and proper concealment of the body. You should clarify to them that non-adherence to wearing the Hijab and impermissible exposure of women's adornment are among the characteristics of the early jahiliyyah (era of ignorance) and the symbol of the modern jahiliyyah. Allaah, the Exalted, forbade Muslims from adopting the manners of the people of the jahiliyyah. He says (what means): {…and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance.} [Quran 33:33] When they see your determination, eagerness, and intensive supplications for them, they will listen to you, Allaah willing. However, we would like to highlight that raising a child and making him accustomed to obeying commands and avoiding prohibitions should be instilled in the child at a young age. When parents are negligent with their children in this regard and allow them to do whatever they wish, then it becomes difficult for them to abide by the commands (when they grow older).

Therefore, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Command your children to pray when they are seven years old and beat them for not praying when they are ten years old and arrange their beds (to sleep) separately."

Allaah Knows best.
