Question

AI work as a DJ; I Mix Music I don't sing, I just eliminate the gap between songs. I wanted to know if my money is considered Haram?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Indeed, Allah has urged us to go about the earth and to strive to our utmost to support ourselves by earning our provisions through Halal means with money from Halal sources, as Allah Said: {He it is, Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to live and to do agriculture on it, etc.), so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection.} [67:15].
Also, He has warned us from idleness and from relying upon others as has been recorded in al-Bukhari and Muslim that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "It is better for you to take your rope, go to the mountain, cut some firewood, carry it on your back, sell it and thereby guard your face (against humiliation) than begging from people who may then give you or refuse" .
In spite of this, Islam encourages one to struggle hard to obtain his living through working, typical examples of this include craft making, farming, trading and all professions of the like.
Nevertheless, it has been made forbidden to work in everything, which is prohibited, by the Islamic law, such as dancing, singing construction of idols and statues, the farming of drugs and alcohol, etc.
The wisdom behind this is clear, so that the society will be clear and pure and members use what is in their capacity to benefit themselves as well as the Muslim society.
Therefore, we say to the person who posed this question, to distance himself from any action which displeases Allah, and to try and find a profession which is permissible, and that will result in goodness for both him and his society, since the aforementioned actions are considered as helping in sins and gross injustice as it is a way to corrupt the Muslim youth and encourage the spread of evil and corruption which cause the breaking down of the Muslim society, and this is what the enemies of Islam are working towards with all their abilities.
As Allah said: {Verily, those who like that (the crime of) illegal sexual intercourse should be propagated among those who believe, they will have a painful torment in this world and in the Hereafter. …} [24:19].
Allah knows best.
