Disagreement and unhappiness in marriage

Question

Is constant disagreement and unhappiness in a marriage enough reason for divorce?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Allah, The Exalted, Correlates between "results and reasons". So, if one knows reasons of difference, he can treat the situation well and thoroughly; if one recognizes what produces unhappiness, he can behave well.
Here, we advise the inquirer to be patient, to seek Allah's reward, to treat politely and to tackle the situation with leniency and kindness.
The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "A believing man should not hate a believing woman (his wife), since he may hate one of her habits, but like another" [Reported by Imam Muslim ].
Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {… And live with them honourably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allâh brings through it a great deal of good.} [4: 19].
Another Hadith reads: "The best among you are those who behave best towards their wives (families), and I am the best towards my families" [ al-Tirmizi ].
Marital life is based on harmony and cordiality. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.} [30: 21].
For sure, it is natural for a husband and wife to face some problems and differences that may disturb marital life. But, we have to know that divorce is the last resort and one should avoid it except in case of dire need, since the devil will be pleased in such a case. So, we should not ruin a Muslim family and break cordial relation for some differences that are easy to resolve.
Allah knows best.
