A dream that came true

Question

Two years ago, my dad's friend came to America and stayed with us for a week. A month after he left, I saw him in my dream. I had two dreams about him. First dream, I saw him in the hospital, passed away. Second dream, a few weeks later, I saw him dead in his bedroom, on his bed with a gun next to him. About a month later, we heard from family in Pakistan that my dad's friend had commited suicide in his bedroom. After I got more details I realized it probably happened exactly the way I had seen in the dream. Please tell me, if this would be considered as a true dream, a dream from Allah? I didn't think it would actually come true, so I didnt tell anyone about it. Now I regret that I kept it inside me. Please let me know why I saw this dream? Thank you.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Since what you saw in your dream happened exactly as you saw it, then this was an accurate explanation of your dream. As for informing about what you saw, it is reported that that the person who sees a dream that he likes could tell that dream to a dear person to him as the good dream is a glad tiding for him. But the person who sees something he does not like should conceal it and not tell it. The evidence for this is Hadith reported by Ahmad and Al Baihaqi from Abu Qatada that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "…. Whoever sees a dream that pleases him, he tells it as it is a glad tiding from Allah and whoever sees a dream that he hates, he does not tell it and should spit at his left hand side and ask refuje with Allah from its evil." [ Al Arnadut said the chain of this Hadith is good].
Know also that you did not commit any sin by not informing that person about the dream you had about him. In fact had you informed him that would not have changed anything, as what is predestined will happen no matter what one does to avoid it.
Allah knows best.
