Failure to Wear Hijab Before Male In-Laws

Question

My sister wear Hijab in front of everyone but due to some problem she is unable to do so far some person such as her husband's brother and some relatives but she wears Hijab with everyone. Is it correct to wear Hijab with some person and not others or she should wear Hijab with everyone.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is mandatory on the woman to wear Hijaab in front of all non-Mahram men regardless of whether they are her relatives, like her cousins, or the relatives of her husband, like his brother, uncle etc.

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Beware of entering upon women”; they said: ‘O! Messenger of Allah, what do you say about an in-law?’ He replied: “He is death itself (i.e. his seclusion with women is as serious and dangerous as death).” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

So, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) compared the in-laws of the woman to death because temptation from them is more probable as they are able to enter the place where the woman is without suspicion. No doubt, the woman who conceals herself from all non-Mahram men is better than the one who conceals herself from only some of them.
