Her husband believes woman should be treated as a shoe-under foot

Question

There is a saying in Urdu that the place of a shoe is under the foot. My father in-law used to teach all his sons that a wife is like a shoe and she has to be kept under the foot. If she is removed from there she will sit on the head. My husband of all the sons believes and practices it, although he is the most educated and knowledgeable person in the family. Also he reminds his brothers not to forget the saying. It hurts me to the core as my father in-law was an Imam and my husband is a Daee What to do?.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Saying that a woman is like a shoe is an abominable saying which contradicts Shariah and noble character as well. Whoever proclaims such a matter is totally ignorant to the texts of Qur'an and Hadith. How can a Muslim be dare to give such a statement while the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: “Indeed women are the counterparts (partners) of men.” [Ahmad and al-Tirmizi]

Therefore, this person should be informed and taught about the status of women in Islam.
