Question
My husband wants me to see television with him and to see all the programs and film but not the Islamic ones. I refused and told him I'm trying to improve myself to be a real good Muslim woman and I set in another room reading, or doing any useful matter. Am I guilty towards him and what should I do not to make him angry from me?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
The wife should obey her husband within what is permissible and reasonable. The Prophet 
said: "Obedience is within what is permissible (i.e. Islamicly)." So you should not obey your husband in watching the films about which Allaah is displeased and you are not sinful in disobeying him in this matter, rather you could be rewarded for this. We advise you to deal with your husband in this matter with wisdom, so you should advise him with good words and remind him that he should help you in observing the religious requirements and not oblige you to commit an act of disobedience to Allaah. By being patient with him, supplicating Allaah as much as possible and seeking the help of whomever could influence him, you could succeed in convincing him and he would regain righteousness.
