Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We do not know any evidence from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) which proves that it is a Sunnah or that it is desirable to have intercourse in the dark. The matter depends on the husband and wife to have intercourse while the room is lit up or in the dark; in principle it is permissible for the husband and wife to enjoy each other in any manner they like unless there is evidence that a given manner is forbidden.

For more benefit about the etiquettes of having intercourse, please refer to Fataawa 81556, 81608, 82908 and 82530. As regards kissing while observing fasting, please refer to Fataawa 86614 and 84129.

Allaah Knows best.
