Question
Asalamu alaykum My question is related to relatives like brothers. I know u must not break kinship, but what if the relatives of your husband have bad influence on him. They watch all day TV, use Internet too much, wasting time. Husbands coming home very late when they are together, they do not take the wife and kids anywhere to enjoy the nature or whatever, etc. Can u make dua to Allah that he may loose the too strong connection if it has bad influence, I mean not breaking kinship, just not let them to be too good friends as well, coz the prophet SAWS told we are upon the friends religion. JazakAllah khayran
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is preferable for the enquiring sister to supplicate Allaah to guide her husband to act righteously, instead of supplicating to weaken his relation with his family. No doubt, wasting time in surfing the Internet or watching television is (at least) dislikeable, and it becomes forbidden if it includes watching forbidden matters or neglecting one’s duties.
We entrust our enquiring sister to admonish her husband with wisdom and soft words, explain to him the dangers of wasting time uselessly and the harms of neglecting the rights of wife and children. You may provide him with good books and cassettes that address this matter and you may also seek the help of his relatives and neighbours who might have influence on him, but remember that the most effective means is supplicating Allaah to keep him away from the bad company.
