Removing the pubic hair of an autistic son

Question

MY SON IS AUTISTIC. MENTALLY UNSTABLE BUT PHYSICALLY FIT. HE CAN NOT HANDLE HIMSELF. HE HAS BECOME 14 YRS OLD. HAIRS ARE GROWING ON HIDDEN PARTS OF HIS BODY. DO I HAVE TO CLEAN HIS PUBIC HAIR?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Scholars agreed that the pubic hair is part of the ‘Awrah, which is forbidden to be seen or touched by anyone other than the one who is Islamically permitted to do that like the wife, as the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "No man should look at the ‘Awrah of another man." [Muslim]

The only exception in this regard is the case when there is a dire necessity for seeing or touching the ‘Awrah.

Consequently, if your son cannot shave his pubic hair for himself, there is no harm if you do this for him. However, the uncovered part of his ‘Awrah should remain within what is necessary.

Allaah Knows best.
