Wants to create an imaginary computer game

Question

Is it allowed to prepare a concept for a pc-game? I know about the forbidden things like music, gambling etc. that are not allowed to be in a computer game but what about the fact that there would be humans and human-like beings or fantasy-beings, e.g. dragons etc.? nevertheless, I would consider the islamic view of life... A brief introduction: The protagonist is the only surviver of his kind because his planet was destroyed by the angels of allah due to their sins and so on. This hero is sent throuh the whole universe until his capsule lands on a planet. Here, he is found by a family which adopt him since he is a infant. His destiny is to become the hero that fights the evil on his planet and who spreads justice and so on. On his way, there will be fellows helping him, not only human-like beings but also other specific beings (composite beings), like dragons. I know that allahs forbids to copy allah swt creatures but what about fantasy beings? is this even worse since one is creating completly new beings? Alaikum Selam

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have already issued Fataawa 86146 and 91906 on computer games in general clarifying the conditions for the validity of such games. We have also clarified that it is forbidden to draw imaginary creatures as this is worse than drawing creatures that already exist, so this is even more prohibited. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 92456.

Besides, such films would lead to wasting time and distracting people from what benefits them in their worldly life and in their religion.

Since this game is imaginary as its name suggests, it is better for a rational person not to waste his life on fantasies and unrealistic matters and imagine life and confrontations in planets between creatures we know nothing about, so informing about them is just a mere imagination and hallucination.

Therefore, we advise you not to waste your time on such a matter, rather you should be concerned about what benefits you and leads to the benefits of other people in their worldly life and Hereafter.

Indeed, you may exploit your computer talents in creating films or programmes from which the children of the Muslims learn their religious matters as well as their worldly matters, and thus you would guide them to the noble characters and urge them to learn and seek beneficial knowledge and not make them live in fantasy that does not benefit in any way at all.

Allaah Knows best.
