Question
Assalaamu alaikum. A person previously supplicated to be able to make Hijrah (emigrate to a Muslim land). There is an opportunity to marry abroad, Allaah willing. There are marriage prospects available in her country, but she does not always feel positive after praying Istikhaarah (guidance-seeking prayer). However, her parents are old, and this may effect them healthwise. She did Istikhaarah and felt sure about it. What should she do? May Allaah reward you.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
If the girl's parents are as mentioned, old and her traveling may affect their health, then our advice to her is to stay with her parents, keenly show dutifulness towards them, and strive in bringing happiness to their hearts. Perhaps Allah would make her actions a means to bless her with a righteous husband who would help her obey her Lord as due.
She should seek the help of her righteous trustworthy Muslim sisters to find a righteous husband. It is permissible for a woman in Islam to look for a husband or properly propose to a man whom she wishes to marry, as highlighted in fatwa 82471.
